Our summer reading boot camp is designed with personalized, research-driven, and engaging multi-sensory lessons. Our certified reading specialists and licensed teachers are dedicated to understanding and meeting your child's unique needs. At More To Learn Academy, we've crafted our Summer Reading Program specifically for students aged 5-12 who are striving to reach their grade-level reading skills. Operating from 9 a.m. to noon, our program is led by licensed educators and focuses on crucial literacy skills such as phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension through engaging, interactive sessions. Designed as an intervention and remediation camp, it offers two five-week sessions aimed at fostering significant academic growth, confidence, and a love for reading, all within a nurturing and fun environment.

Our program covers the essential skills necessary for establishing a robust literacy foundation, encompassing the five pillars of reading as well as writing competencies. All reading foundation (RF), readding literature (RL), and reading informational (RI) standards will be covered during each 5 week session.

What is your health and safety policy?
We follow all local guidelines, including our 24-hour sickness policy (your child must be clear of the following symptoms for 24 hours before returning to camp: fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea).
Do I have to buy school supplies or pay for field trips?
No. Your supplies are included with the cost of registration. All events and field trips are an extra cost.
Where are you located?
We are located inside Mt Vernon Baptist Church. Our classes take place on the 2nd floor of the education building. Follow the signs for Reading Intervention Boot Camp. Our address is: 1007 S. Roxboro, Durham, NC 27707
When does Reading Intervention Boot Camp start? Can I enroll mid-year?
First Session: June 12, 2023 - July 13, 2023
Second Session: July 24, 2023 - August 24, 2023.
If we have spots available, you can enroll mid-session. Please call us to see if we have any spots available. (919.627.1410)
What if my child needs to miss a day(s)/week?
That's okay! We hold your spot while you're away! Full payment for each session is still due. You can use our member's area to access worksheets and videos while away from camp!
About Us
I'm Passionate About Teaching!
Hi! I'm Miss Phylicia, and for as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a teacher.
I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Fayetteville State University, an advanced master's degree in reading education from UNC-Charlotte, and am a certified reading specialist! I have been teaching for more than a decade and was awarded Teacher of the Year while teaching in Durham Public Schools. I love educating children!
More To Learn Academy began in 2012 when I was working as a classroom teacher and noticed children who were reading significantly below grade level needed additional support outside of the classroom. I began offering reading tutoring after school to provide reading intervention to support these students.
In 2018, after receiving an advanced Master’s Degree in Reading Education and becoming certified as a Reading Specialist, my after-school tutoring officially became More To Learn Tutoring LLC.
Our online preschool was added in 2020 to make sure families have access to a preschool program where their preschoolers receive a strong foundation in literacy before entering kindergarten.
The combination of our online private reading tutoring and online preschool is More To Learn Academy.
At More To Learn Academy we serve children ages 3 - 5 years through our online preschool program and provide private 1-1 reading tutoring to students in grades K - 12 through our online private tutoring program.
I am thankful to God for gracing me with the gift to teach children how to read. It is my absolute pleasure to serve in this way.
